I hold each of you in prayer through my Daily Prayer Card. I am encouraged to read so many of your newsletters – and learn about ways you are inviting parishioners to practice the marks of discipleship. I have seen opportunities to participate in a prayer group, a Bible Study, Lectio Divina, a book study on Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline or a Labyrinth walk. These opportunities move people toward the marks of a Disciple, as identified by Glenn McDonald: A heart for Christ alone, A mind transformed by the Word, Arms of Love, Knees for Prayer, A voice to speak the Good News and A spirit of Servanthood and stewardship.

Sadly, I don't receive many of your newsletters – please check and if necessary, add me to your mailing list at 910 Stony Rd. Lake Mills, WI 53551.

Another book recommendation that many of you have already read: Foss, Michael W. Power Surge: Six Marks of Discipleship for a Changing Church. Minneapolis, MN: Fortress Press, 2000. 183 pp.

Foss is pastor of the Prince of Peace ELCA church in Burnsville, MN. He identifies six marks of leadership, six marks of discipleship and four cornerstones of trusting leadership. It's a good resource for pastors and makes a great book study, with discussion questions at the end of each chapter.
